Why a Solar Install Needs Proper Access
Fitting a solar array means your installers spend hours up on the roof — setting the mounting rails, running the cabling and lifting the panels into place, often along the whole length of a roof. That’s sustained work at height with both hands full and heavy panels to handle, and it can’t be done safely off a ladder or a roof ladder alone.
A boarded platform with edge protection at gutter level gives the installers a safe footing along the run, somewhere to stage the panels and rails as they go, and the fall protection that working at height requires. For anything more than reaching a panel or two at the edge, yes. Fitting an array means sustained work along the roof with heavy panels to handle, and that needs a boarded platform with edge protection; most installers won’t fit without it, and it’s a working-at-height requirement.
How Fast Can You Get the Access Up?
