Solar panel scaffold, Cove Road, Farnborough

Service we supplied: Scaffolding for solar panel installation.

Location: Cove Road, Farnborough, GU14.

Customer requirements: A solar panel company requested we erect a safe working platform and handrails along the roof line of a standard 2-storey property in Farnborough so that they could install solar panels. Our quote included a hire period of 4 weeks.

Issues that arose: We encountered no problems while erecting this structure; the side of the property was down an alleyway that two neighbours shared. However, permission was granted to erect the scaffold between both properties and fix bracing tubes against the neighbours’ wall.

What we did:

• Our scaffolders erected an approximately 8 linear metre wide by 4-metre high scaffold to the gable end of this house.
• This scaffolding featured 2 lifts, with only the top lift fully boarded at gutter height, providing easy access to the roof line.
• This access platform was 5 scaffold boards deep.
• 2 fleets of 13ft scaffolding boards (12 boards total) were installed on the top working lift.
• We installed a ladder gate, toe boards, and double handrails on the working platform for fall prevention.
• Fixed ladder access was also provided for climbing onto the top lift.
• Our team then erected 4m of edge protection double handrails on either end of the roof to prevent falls from a height.
• This structure was also butted into both houses down the small alleyway between both properties to give more stability to the scaffold.
• Yellow end caps were used on these tubes to protect the walls.

Rental period: We provided a scaffolding hire period of 4 weeks for this customer to complete their installation.
