Freestanding rendering scaffold, Sarisbury Close, Southampton

Scaffold for rendering, Sarisbury Close, Southampton

Service we supplied: Scaffolding for rendering works.

Location: Sarisbury Close, Southampton.

Customer requirements: We were asked to supply, erect and dismantle a freestanding scaffolding to the rear elevation of a 2-storey property in Southampton so that this customer could perform rendering repair works. We provided a quote to the customer, which included 4 weeks’ hire.
Issues that arose: We faced no problems erecting this freestanding scaffolding structure. The only slight issue our scaffolders needed to be aware of was keeping the transom tubes from touching the walls of the property, as the customer would not be able to render if the tubes were butted against the walls. So, they left a 1 board gap between the scaffold and the property while cross-bracing the 1st lift platform to ensure the scaffold remained sturdy.

What we did:

  • First, our scaffolders built an approximately 12-metre-long by 2.4-metre-high single lift structure that spanned the whole rear elevation. This platform was 5 scaffold boards deep.
  • We then erected an 8-metre table lift that was around 4.5 metres high. This working area was also 5 scaffolding boards deep.
  • This scaffold was freestanding, so we added double cross bracing on the base lift to increase stability.
  • Double handrails and toe boards were fixed to both boarded platforms.
  • Ladder access was provided on both lifts.
  • A total of 12x standards (upright tubes) were used for this structure.
  • 5ft transom tubes were used on the top and bottom lifts, and 8ft tubes for the braces.
  • A single 21-foot tube was used as the sway brace on both lifts.
  • Wooden sole boards were placed on the floor under the base plates to prevent sinkage, on which the upright vertical tube (legs) stand.
  • Various fittings were used throughout this scaffold, including single, double, and swivel couplers and sleeves, which joined the handrail and ledger tubes together end to end.

Rental period: Included in our quotation was a 12-week hire period, as agreed initially with this customer.
