8ft wide scaffolding tower for gutter replacement works on a building in Winchester

Service we supplied: Scaffold for access to guttering.

Location: Pegasus Winchester Holts, Sarum Rd, Winchester, SO22.

Customer requirements: We were asked to provide a quotation for a small tower scaffold so that our client could reach a section of guttering on a retirement complex in Winchester. The price we gave was £550, and we included 4 weeks’ hire within our quotation.

Issues that arose: We did not encounter any problems erecting or dismantling this structure. However, we needed to be careful when erecting the tower’s framework because there was a glass balcony on the 1st floor, and the scaffolding could not bear any weight on this.

What we did: Our scaffolders erected an 8ft (2.4m) wide tower that was approximately 6 metres tall. The first lift of this tower was placed directly under the base of the glass balcony; then, a working platform was built above the balcony. After this, the top lift was installed midway between the 3^rd-floor window so our client could easily reach the guttering whilst standing on the platform.

What else was included?

• Each access platform was 6 scaffolding boards wide.
• This tower featured a yellow ladder gate fixed onto the 1^st working platform.
• A ladder trap door was also installed on the top lift.
• Double handrails and toeboards were added around the perimeter of the platforms for fall protection.
• Two separate ladders were fixed to the tower to provide safe access for the users.
• Two 21ft scaffold tubes were required as support rakers for this tower.
• Wooden sole boards were used to support the structure and ensure there was no sinkage.
• Yellow end caps were placed on all tubes that were resting on the building to prevent any damage.
• This scaffolding tower consisted of 4 standards (vertical tubes) that the horizontal ledger tubes were connected to with double couplers. 

Rental period: We gave our customer a 4-week hire period, which is our standard rental time for this type of structure. This was more than enough time for them to complete their guttering work.
