Scaffolding tower to provide safe access to the roof of a dormer on a property in Gosport

Service we supplied: Scaffold tower for dormer access.

Location: Whitworth Close, Gosport. PO12 3PF.

Customer requirements: We were asked to give a quote to supply a scaffolding tower to the front elevation of a 2-storey house in Gosport to provide access to the top of a dormer for repairs to take place. We quoted this structure at £550 with a 2-week rental period included within our price.

Issues that arose: We did not face any problems; however, our scaffolders needed to be careful not to break any tiles on the roof below the dormer.

What we did: 

• Our team of scaffolders put up an 8ft (2.4 metres) wide tower to the right-hand side of the front of this house.
• The tower measured approximately 8 metres tall.
• The 2^nd and the 4^th lifts were access platforms that were fully boarded.
• The 2^nd lift was 4 scaffolding boards deep because it was only being used as access, and the 4^th lift was 6 scaffolding boards wide.
• Double handrails and toe boards were installed on both platforms.
• A yellow safety ladder gate was installed on the top lift, providing additional protection from falling at height.
• Two steel ladders were supplied, one with 18 rungs and the other with 15 rungs, and these were fixed firmly to the scaffold,
• A scaffold board was placed on the roof to rest our tubes on so that the tiles would be protected.
• Two rakers were fixed to the front of the structure to provide extra support.
• Four 21ft tubes were used to create the base of the tower.
• Additional bracing was also fitted to ensure the framework was completely sturdy.

Rental period: Our client required a shorter than usual hire period of two weeks. This was because the work they needed to carry out would not take very long to complete, so we included this rental time in our original estimate.
