Scaffolding tower for a cavity wall insulation project at Hayling Island college. Price £400

Location: Hayling Island College, Church Rd, Hayling Island, Hampshire, PO11.

Customer requirements: We were asked to erect a scaffold tower to the gable end of one of the buildings at the college so that a contractor could perform cavity wall insulation. We quoted this customer £400, which included 4 weeks’ hire.

Issues that arose: There was an electricity box causing an obstruction, so no weight was allowed to be placed on this, which meant we were required to build up and over the electrical box. Extra caution is taken when working around electrical items. Besides this, we faced no further problems erecting this scaffolding structure.

What we did: 

Our scaffolders erected and dismantled a 4-metre long tower that was 5 metres high with 2 boarded working platforms. This scaffolding was put up on the gable end of a 2-storey building within the college grounds. Close to where we needed to erect our framework was a large electrical power box which we needed to build over. Our scaffolders erected the tower, ensuring that the unit did not bear any weight.

What else was included?

• 2x fully boarded lifts that were 6 scaffold boards wide.
• Toe boards and double handrails were installed on both platforms.
• Ladder access was provided on both lifts.
• A yellow ladder gate was installed on the 1^st lift.
• 6x standards (upright tube) were used for this tower.
• A total of 14 boards were used on the 2 working lifts.
• 2 inward-facing braces and 2 outward-facing braces were fitted on the 1^st and 2^nd lifts.

Rental period: Included in our quotation was 4-week hire, a standard period for this type of job. It would allow our client enough time to complete their work.
