Service we supplied: Scaffolding for solar panel installation.
Location: Bedenham school, Bridgemary Avenue, Gosport, PO13.
Customer requirements: A safe working platform was required by a solar panel company for them to install PV panels on sections of a roof at a Gosport primary school. Included in our quotation was a price for a 50m long safe scaffolding structure, plus installation of heras fencing with a 2 week hire period.
Issues that arose: We did not encounter any issues while erecting this structure. We were required to take extra care as this was on a primary school building in the playground, where children could easily access the scaffolding. So, we created a secure perimeter around the scaffold so that the children would be safe and could still play outside whilst the works were ongoing.
What we done: Our scaffolders erected a 50m (164ft) long scaffold however this was not a completely straight run. We were required to create small returns where the building changed its course. The scaffolding was 3.5m high and had 2 lifts, with the second and top lift being fully boarded 5x boards wide to make a spacious working platform. The top working lift was erected to gutter height.
We installed a ladder gate, toe boards and double handrails for fall prevention, across the whole of the structure. We also installed a beam along the left side of the roof for additional fall protection on that side.

Rental period: We provided a scaffolding hire period of 2 weeks. Solar panel companies tend to have a quick turnaround when installing their equipment. This rental period was plenty long enough for them to undertake their work.
